Secondary Throttle

BASTRA is able to control charge motion by a new variable intake port with "secondary throttle" application.
The secondary throttle is designed in order to close one of two intake ports of the engine for better combustion efficieny in part-load conditions.
Special attention was given on the impact of throttle shape and position on fuel injectors spray and mixing.
In addition the design is optimised for reduced flow losses at full-load condition.

Swumble Port

With a new port divider - the SWUMBLE Port - BASTRA has developed a multi purpose high tumble port applicable on two and four valve engines.
The special shape of this port divider allows to increase tumble ratio of intake flows in comparision to conventional tumble port applications.
A benchmark with conventional tumble port concepts evidences the advantages of this concept using a normalised tumble ratio (NTR):

simple conventional intake port: NTR = 10 rad/g
intake port with tumble-flap: NTR = 29 rad/g
intake port with VW "FSI" concept: NTR = 36 rad/g
SWUMBLE intake port: NTR = 39 rad/g

The SWUMBLE port is able to be applied on Direct Injection systems for high tumble generation in part-load conditions.

In addition the SWUMBLE port is used on two and four valve carburettor/injection engines as a self-controlled port divider (simply controlled by air/gas flow due to throttle position) for improved combustion effiency (up to 10%).
